A Note from the GBSAN President

June 2023

Dear Valued GBSAN member

Firstly, thanks for your continuing support for GBSAN, the only organisation on the Granite Belt committed to regional sustainable development and environmental protection.  2023/24 is set to be an exciting year for GBSAN and our work as we consolidate around a clear set of strategic goals and establish project teams to deliver these outcomes.  This is based on a review of the organisation and an adoption of a strategic plan that will be put to a general meeting in August. These priorities include:

  • Establish a system of biodiversity linkages across the Granite Belt.

  • Push for the upgrade of the conservation tenure of the Broadwater and Amiens sections of the Passchendaele State Forest.

  • Work with other organisations to reduce the impact of priority invasive species including cats, pigs and goats.

  • Develop a comprehensive approach to managing Granite Belt water resources to ensure long-term availability and environmental sustainability is in place.

  • Work towards an industrial scale anaerobic biodigester being operational in the Southern Downs.

  • Establish effective chemical and ag-plastic waste collection schemes in the Southern Downs.

  • Identify opportunities to support the uptake and use of more sustainably sourced renewable energy in the Region.

As a 100% volunteer organisation we are only as strong and effective as our membership and support base.  All our teams rely on committed people volunteering their time to make our community more sustainable and maintain our region's phenomenal landscape.

In order to achieve our goals I’m asking you to re-commit your financial support to GBSAN by renewing your membership for 2023/24.  For the price of four cups of coffee you’ll be supporting our ongoing work.

Better still, if you would like to join one of our project teams please contact me at richardhumphries@bigpond.com.   The level of active member participation determines the effectiveness of our teams.

Once again, thanks for your support.
