Household Chemical Waste

The Southern Downs Regional Council has announced the dates for free drop off days for Household Chemicals, Warwick on 12th April, 9am-3pm, and Stanthorpe on 3rd May, 9am-3pm (yes, that’s election day).

The provision of these days has been a long-term goal of GBSAN, spearheaded by the Waste and Resource Recovery Group.

Household hazardous chemicals such as chlorine and bleach are highly flammable, corrosive or explosive and should never be thrown into just any bin.

Clean out your shed, kitchen or laundry and bring your chemicals to these drop-off days where they will be disposed of in a safe and compliant manner by Council's waste partner, Cleanaway.

WHAT CAN I BRING?

You can bring household quantities (up to 20L or 20kg of a single item) of:

  • Solvents and household cleaners

  • Ammonia-based cleaners

  • Pesticides and herbicides

  • Poisons

  • Pool and hobby chemicals

  • Motor fuels

  • Paint and paint-related products

  • Acids and alkalis

  • Cooking oils

WHAT CAN'T I BRING?

  • Chemicals in unlabelled or damaged containers

  • Flares

  • Farming-related and commercial quantities of chemicals (note: these can be disposed of with the ChemClear program)

These days are a trial for Council to judge whether a regular collection of household chemicals is needed, so please make use of this free service if you have any poisons to dispose of.
