Queensland Renewable Energy Landholder Toolkit

Queensland Farmers’ Federation in partnership with the Queensland Government, has prepared the Queensland Renewable Energy Landholder Toolkit to assist and inform landholders as they respond to and negotiate with energy industry representatives about accessing land and developing renewable energy projects.

Queensland’s renewable energy sector is poised for rapid growth through programs such as the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan. This Toolkit provides a timely opportunity for landholders to reflect on the various potential benefits and risks associated with on-farm renewable developments.

The Toolkit contains:

  • Detailed checklists to use throughout developer negotiation processes.

  • Practical guidance for each stage of a renewable energy project  development.

  • Insights from legal and financial professionals, government bodies and landholders who have undertaken these processes themselves.

  • Information on benefit sharing, community engagement and social license considerations.

  • Extensive resources.

RENEWABLE ENERGY DEVELOPMENT WEBINARS

With Queensland containing significant prime farmland it is essential that any potential impacts on the productivity of the agriculture sector are carefully considered throughout the rollout of renewable energy projects. This resource offers the sector a tool to help negotiate for mutually beneficial land sharing agreements, and allows landholders to make confident, informed decisions regarding their land usage.

During the development of the Toolkit QFF conducted a two-part webinar series featuring discussions with both a landholder and a developer to gain insight into their perspectives on the renewable energy project development process.

In the first webinar, QFF CEO Jo Sheppard and the QFF energy project team hosted a webinar with special guest James Walker, who hosts the Longreach Solar Farm on his property Camden Park Station.

James talks about why he decided to diversify into renewable energy and how he worked with the developer as they delivered the project. He discussed the key phases of negotiations and what to expect from the planning and development process.

In the second webinar QFF Project Manager, Energy, Andrew Chamberlin speaks with ACCIONA Energía Business Developer Manager Gavin Lee about land access for renewable projects from the developer perspective.
