Community Engagement Team Update
Jan 2024
The Community Engagement Team has been busy with weekly market stalls and will continue these from early February 2024 until the SDRC Council Election in March 2024. The stalls have provided a great opportunity in 2023 to connect with our community and exchange information about our local biodiversity and resource management as well as building awareness of the Exploratory Mining Permits in our region. We have made some great contacts with a range of people, including some who have recently moved to the area.
Focus for the weekly market stalls in 2024 will include information about the commitment of the 2024 council candidates to addressing sustainability issues in real and practical ways. GBSAN will be documenting their responses and posting this on the GBSAN website. This allows members of our community to make informed decisions when voting for our next council. It also offers the opportunity to ensure that the elected councillors are held accountable for election promises.
We have more opportunities for our members to become involved in one-off events this year. To continue to raise our profile and awareness of our activities, we will be screening three films throughout the year. We are also embarking on a fun-filled float in the Apple and Grape parade. This will have a wildlife theme with our beautiful spotted-tailed Queenie the Quoll as monarch of the float. Please consider coming along to help decorate the float on 10 Feb from 9 to 12 noon and/or volunteering at our film night on 10 Feb in the evening. You don’t need any particular skills – just some enthusiasm! Contact Geraldine Hollingsworth – geraldine8749@bigpond.com for more information and if you would like to volunteer
