Renewables in Agriculture Conference

GBSAN received a grant from Acciona Energía to send 12 Granite Belt landholders to the National Renewables in Agriculture Conference and Expo in Toowoomba on 4 July 2024. It was an informative and inspirational day. We’re working on a full review of the day and will share it in next month’s newsletter. Above: NZ Cherry farmer, Mike Casey, who has completely electrified his farm.

Community Engagement Team Updates

The Community Engagement Team (CET) actively supported World Environment Day on 5 June with an information stall in the Stanthorpe Piazza.

Biodiversity Landscape Linkages Project

Through the support of local landowners and various community groups including the original Land for Wildlife information we are seeking to map possible linkages or movement zones of wildlife as well

Stanthorpe Eco Expo | 7th September 2024, Stanthorpe Railway Precinct

Stanthorpe Eco Expo (SEE) planning is well underway. This year will be the 5th Eco Expo and we are moving back to town, at the Whistlestop Community Gardens, adjacent to the Farmers Markets. So far we have a wonderful lineup with live music, speakers with vast knowledge from diverse backgrounds, demonstrations of easy projects that everyone can do to make a positive difference to their local community as well as a community art project.

Wattle Day | Landcare Office, Tenterfield. Wednesday, 4th September, 10am - 3:30pm. 'Wattle-It-Bee' will be an informative day at the Landcare office dedicated to everything Acacia. Come along and hear some of our local talents talk about the various benefits of this resilient and robust species of plant. Members from the Stanthorpe Rare Wildflower Consortium (SRWC) will speak from their wealth of knowledge of local Acacia species. Sarah Caldwell, from Mole River Nursery will discuss propagation, seedbank storage and collection. Aunty Helen Duroux and Matt Sing will discuss traditional uses of wattles.

Tracey, who propagates vegetable seedlings at the Stanthorpe Saturday farmers markets, is seeking used paper coffee cups for planting pots. If you have some to donate please take them to her rinsed out.

Entries are now open for Wild At Art 2024! From now until Monday 12 August entries are invited from young artists and nature lovers aged 5-12, showcasing the importance of protecting Australia’s threatened animals and plants for generations to come.
